Ilocano: Cultural Survival

The meaning of the title of this post is to inform how the Ilocanos are trying to survive today and what obstacle they went through to keep their culture alive.  The Ilocanos as I've said before had their first encounter of trying survive when the Spanish attempted to conquer them but the Spanish didn't expect the Ilocanos to resist so much and ultimately conquered the Spanish.

Another way  that the Ilocanos have issues surviving in their homeland is that their land alternates with six month periods of rain and droughts.  They although had been successful in rice production despite the fact of incredible amounts and duration of rain and droughts they receive but instead of trying to live off the land many Ilocanos have migrated away from the Philippines for better opportunities.

As I've stated before the Ilocanos have migrated to other parts of the United States for not only better opportunities for themselves and their families but also professionally wise too.  It was difficult to find information on this topic.  The reasons for why it was so difficult because it was hard to find information on how people of Ilocano decent today are making a living.
